10 Things I Learnt from Year 1 of University

Things I Learnt During My First Year of University

I have recently completed my first year of Uni, I have learnt so much during this last year, not just school related so I thought I’d write a little post to show what I have learnt.

1) Referencing is so fucking important. Literally. Learn it. Breathe it. Live it.

2) Write the dates of when your assignments are due and stick them somewhere you’ll see them. It’ll be a constant reminder to get them done.

3) People, surprisingly enough, aren’t staring at you. Nope they don’t care you’re wearing no makeup. Yes, your outfit looks nice but they still don’t care. Focus.

4) Make heading for each paragraph you need or want to write about. This ensures you do everything and that you don’t stray from task.

5) Don’t stress about making friends quickly, it will eventually happen and if you worry about it, it’s just building more stress for yourself.

6) Make an effort before the week an assignment is due, you don’t want it to be the final week and you have four assignments due. Even 300 words is enough to make a difference. This still applies even if you know you’re able to do it last minute. (I’m still learning this).

7) It’s okay if you aren’t able to get out of bed in the morning so you miss a class. Sometimes, you just have days where you can’t get out of bed. Just try to make sure that you go 70% of your classes.

8) Most lecturers will help you, if you show effort and actually try before asking for help.

9) Textbooks can be a punch in the stomach, cost-wise. Don’t purchase them until you’ve been to your first class and have actually asked if you need it. Also, look up the textbook online to see if there is a free pdf file.

10)         I find thinking of the hours before an assignment is due, helps me to de-stress. This usually happens week four, so I will usually have six/eight weeks left.
